NACE International Gateway India Section was established in 1992. It has become one of the largest and most active sections of NACE International through its significant contributions for the promotion of corrosion awareness in India. It has done this by organizing annual conferences/seminars as well as education programs and workshops every year. NIGIS is committed to enhance the quality and range of services and activities promoting awareness and control of corrosion. NIGIS has more than 700 members and has organized several CIP level-I, level-II and Peer Review certification courses and Refinery Corrosion course.
NIGIS has commenced initiative to evaluate cost of corrosion to the nation. NIGIS also has programs to support students and has recently started Students Chapter at IIT Bombay.
NIGIS has organised fourteen annual conferences, thirty one seminars / workshops & sixty three corrosion awareness programmes on Cathodic Protection, Paint & Coating Inspection, Pipeline Corrosion, Fundamental of Corrosion, Industrial Cooling Water Treatment Management, Corrosion Control in Refining Process etc. These programmes are tailored to meet the need of the professionals in Indian industries and are regularly updated to include new inputs of technologies an their applications with a mission to minimize corrosion losses. These programmes are parts of Career Development activities of India Section to train professionals and equip them with state of the art knowledge in corrosion prevention and protection. Response to these programmes establishes the need of the industries for these trainings.
The activities of NIGIS provide a unique platform for engineers and professionals to deliberate on corrosion and benefit from shared experiences and knowledge. In the last decade, Activities of NIGIS received tremendous response from Indian and foreign industries and exhibitors could demonstrate products and processes of corrosion control. India Section now owns an office at Mumbai.
